Why the Real Magic Happens Before You Ever Take the Stage: The Trust That Creates Core Memories.

This past week, my partner Jamie—who’s Executive Director of the California Manufactured Homes Institute—hosted an awards banquet honoring some long-standing, innovative business leaders. I wasn’t just inspired by who won—I was inspired by why they won. Their success stories were rooted in principles I live by in magic: relationships and trust.

One award recipient said, “Business is about relationships.” Another stressed how success came from building trust and being willing to adapt rather than sticking to “how it’s always been done.” That resonated deeply. In magic, it’s never just about the trick. It’s about the relationship formed long before and long after the show.

When I perform, it’s not me versus the client. It’s us, working together to create core memories. The magic doesn’t start on stage—it starts at the first conversation and continues well beyond the final applause. Trust is everything; after all, clients are giving me their time and money. I’m honored to have that trust, and that’s what makes the magic real—in every business.
