From Rock Bottom to Rebirth: How I Found My Purpose Through Faith, Family, and Magic

There’s a quote I hold close to my heart:
“We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.”
For me, that second life began in 2021.
The Breaking Point
In my early 40s, I was at my lowest. I weighed 220 pounds, was pre-diabetic, depressed, and terrified of dying young. Every time I heard of someone my age passing away from health problems, it felt like a ticking clock over my head.
On the outside, I was juggling two careers — my work at Fort Irwin with the military and performing magic shows on the side. But inside, I was falling apart. My home life was strained, my habits were self-destructive, and I felt faithless and unconfident.
Doctors had warned me for years that if I didn’t change, medication was inevitable. I ignored it — until the fear of dying finally pushed me to act.
The Turning Point
In 2021, after the pandemic, I decided to change. At first, I was fueled by anger, fear, and loneliness. But in that dark place, something unexpected happened —
God found me.
I started small: reading books, watching motivational videos, and pushing myself physically and mentally. Within a couple of years, I lost 60 pounds, but more importantly, I discovered that growth comes through failure and struggle. And I learned to embrace both.
The Rebirth
That shift changed everything:
I rebuilt my relationship with my son Sebastian.
I returned to my faith, was baptized, and began serving as a leader in my church’s children’s ministry.
I pushed myself physically, completing 13 Spartan races and my first half marathon.
I cut ties with toxic influences and found new friends who fit this chapter of my life.
And most recently, I made magic my full-time career.
Along the way, I also gained someone who has been an incredible blessing: Jamie. She has been my best friend, my guru, and my love — encouraging me, challenging me, and walking beside me as I continue to grow.
It hasn’t been perfect. There have been moments of frustration, tears, and setbacks. But there has also been gratitude, growth, and the discovery of self-worth.
At 46, I no longer see the shy, unathletic, scared kid I once was. I see a man with purpose — to serve others, to love God, and to leave a legacy for my sons: Asher, Lennon, and Sebastian.
For Anyone Struggling
If you’re in a dark chapter right now, hear me clearly:
You are not your mistakes. You are not your failures.
It’s never too late to start again. The journey isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. And with a grateful and loving heart, it can be beautiful.
Most importantly: you aren’t alone, and you don’t have to be.
A Chapter Just Beginning
My story is still unfolding. Every day, I wake up determined to build a legacy of faith, joy, and resilience — for myself, for my sons, for Jamie, and for everyone I meet.
Because we only get one life. And my second has just begun.
A Call to You
If my story resonates with you, know this: you are not alone. Please reach out to me. I would love to hear your story, and I’m here to help you through your journey.
Together, we can remind each other that it’s never too late to change, grow, and discover the magic of living with purpose.
