Magic Myths Busted: What Clients Think Happens vs. What Really Happens

Let’s get one thing straight: I love being a magician. But over the years, I’ve noticed a few… shall we say creative misunderstandings about what it means to hire one. So in the spirit of fun (and education), let’s bust a few of the biggest myths I hear all the time—from both magicians and clients.
MYTH #1: “You just show up and do some tricks, right?”
REALITY:
I wish! What you see is a 30-minute performance. What you don’t see is:
Hours of scripting, rehearsing, and tweaking
Customizing routines to fit the audience
Packing props like a magical game of Tetris
Driving 2 hours in LA traffic and praying I didn’t forget my purple suit.
MYTH #2: “Can’t you just do magic with whatever’s lying around?”
REALITY:
Sure… if “whatever’s lying around” includes a puppy named Frank, coins powered by unicorn farts, invisible rubber bands, and a deck of cards I’ve trained better than my kids’ Alexa.
Magicians can improvise—but the best performances are planned to feel spontaneous.
MYTH #3: “I saw a guy on TikTok do this—can you do that too?”
REALITY:
Maybe! But that guy had:
6 camera angles
4 jump cuts
And possibly a twin hiding behind the couch
Live magic is a different art form. There’s no editing—just real reactions, real people, and one shot to make it magical.
MYTH #4: “You’re probably free Saturday at 7pm, right?”
REALITY:
That’s like asking a mariachi band if they’re free on Cinco de Mayo. Saturdays at 7pm are a magician’s Super Bowl. The earlier you book, the better. I’d love to be there—but let’s not wait until I’m literally in the middle of another show.
MYTH #5: “I can probably find someone cheaper…”
REALITY:
Absolutely. But will they come with decades of experience, stage-tested routines, crowd work skills, and a resume that includes everything from private living rooms to the Magic Castle stage?
When it comes to magic, you’re not just hiring tricks—you’re hiring someone who can make your event unforgettable.
So Why Book Me?
Because you deserve more than a few card tricks.
I bring heart, humor, and a show designed to make people laugh, gasp, and talk about your event long after it’s over.
Whether it’s a private party, wedding, school, or corporate event—I’ll bring the magic. You just bring the people.
Let’s make something amazing together.
