Just Take the Next Step

Lately, I’ve had friends in magic open up to me about their struggles.

Trying to build a career. Feeling overlooked. Wondering when their opportunity will come. Feeling like it’s them against the world.

I understand because I’ve been there.

I’ve spent nearly a decade building Molo Magic, but the hardest thing I had to build wasn’t the business.

It was me.

I was the quiet Asian kid. Shy, timid and unsure of myself. Life knocked me down, and for a long time I carried anger and resentment with me. I thought being strong meant doing everything on my own.

It doesn’t.

Strength is learning from failure. Adapting when something isn’t working. Building a village around you. And having a purpose strong enough to keep you moving when the results haven’t arrived yet.

My faith was a huge part of finding that purpose. Looking back, I believe God was preparing me for the life I wanted long before I was ready to carry it.

There’s an idea I love from The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. When you’re lost in the fog, you don’t need to see the entire road.

You only need to see your next step.

That applies to magic, business and life.

Your opportunity might not come when you want it. Your path might look completely different from someone else’s. And sometimes the hardest seasons are the ones building the person you’ll need to become.

So do the hard things. Find your purpose. Surround yourself with good people.

And when you can’t see where the road leads, take the next step anyway.

You might be surprised where it takes you.
